The Slouch hat is synonymous with both Australian soldiers and the Chindits but in fact was used by most soldiers in the Far East Theatre of Operations. This particular hat is dated 1942 in the sweatband and is size 7 1/4. Retaining both its sweatband (which are often missing as the sweat rotted the stitching) and its Puggaree. Has Suffolk Regiment badge to front which appears to be an original but I cannot confirm it is original to the hat. Certainly the 2nd Battalion served with 123 Indian Brigade but was detached to 161 Indian Brigade during the campaign in the Arakan and then returned to 123 Brig.siege for the siege of Imphal.
The hat is in overall good used condition considering its age and use. Photos show actual item
