Civilian pattern Fire Guard Helmet £45

During the Blitz the incendiary bomb was found to be one of the biggest problems facing the fire brigades, local streep fire parties did their best but during 1941 in the aftermath of the Blitz it was felt necessary to review the whole ARP structure, as a result compulsory service in the Gire Guard was introduced. The authorities knew that if a incendiary could be tackled th emoment it dropped there was a good chance that a fire would not take hold. It was not without hazard, the Germans produced a new incendiary called by the British the 'IBEN' (Incendiary Bomb Exploding Nose) as the name suggests it was designed specifically to explode after a delay so as to kill and injure the civil defence team trying to deal with it.

This helmet is dated 8/41 and made by Ro&Co, it si complete with liner but no chinstrap which they appear not to have been issued with. Marked FG and has the early two piece folded over rim..
