Civilian pattern Supplementary/Street Fire Party Helmet £45
During the Blitz the incendiary bomb was found to be one of the biggest problems facing the fire brigades, local street and supplementary fire parties were organised to deal with incendiary bombs. If a incendiary could be tackled the moment it dropped there was a good chance that a fire would not take hold. It was not without hazard, the Germans produced a new incendiary called by the British the 'IBEN' (Incendiary Bomb Exploding Nose) as the name suggests it was designed specifically to explode after a delay so as to kill and injure the civil defence team trying to deal with it.
This helmet is dated 6/41 and made by PSC, it is complete with liner but no chinstrap which they appear not to have been issued with. Marked SFP and is interesting in having a folded over rim.
