Early war Drivers Licence

At this time local councils issued driving licences pursuant with the Road Traffic Acts 1930-1936 and it was renewed annually. This one issued to Mr L W Lebotte has two years worth, from 28/07/38 to 27/07/39 and 28/07/39 to 27/07/40. The shortage of petrol in WW2 probably accounts for his not bothering to renew it, or of course he may have gone into the services, interestingly the licence comes with a 6 month provisional licence from 1/10/61 to 31/03/62 in the same name, but for Wirral coucil instead of Swansea!
